atlanta The man shot and killed the woman early Wednesday during an encounter with police at an apartment in Atlanta’s Midtown district, according to police.
Atlanta Police Chief Rodney Bryant said at a news conference that police were notified of a shooting at the building shortly before 3:30 a.m. and responded within five minutes. He said the man was shooting a policeman who returned the fire.
Police officers found a woman dead in the apartment she lived in. Police said the man and woman knew each other, there was no force majeure, and the man was in the woman’s apartment. Bryan said police are trying to find out whether the man lived or went into the building.
“One person died in the apartment, and someone we believe to be the culprit was also killed,” Bryant said.
Deputy Secretary Charles Hampton said he had joined several units and had fired several rounds. He said the police could investigate other units and no other victims were found.
Bryant said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to investigate after Atlanta police was involved in a shootout with a man. It is standard procedure for a police officer to operate a gun during an encounter with the public.
Police used drones to “evaluate the scene and assist us through this process,” Bryan said. He did not elaborate on how the drone was used.
According to Brian, several people called 911 and police also know that several people were recording videos during the incident. He advised anyone to contact the police for additional information.
At a press conference, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms saw something dangerous happening and urged residents to call 911.
“We started receiving calls, but social media took hold of the information and, frankly, we received more information than we received through the 911 center,” she said. Take your camera, keep your phone, call 911 and ask if you allow us to do what we’re doing. “
According to local media, residents were asked to stay in Atlantic House apartments. Atlantic House is a spectacular 32-story skyscraper with two rooftop pools, one of the tallest houses in the city.
Police closed streets around at least four square blocks of office and apartment buildings in response to the shootings. Serious emergency responses included armored vehicles, ambulances, and several police cars with long guns fired by officers.
Police closed West Peachtree Street and Spring Street between 10th and 14th Avenues, causing a headache for morning commuters.
