Voice of America won two awards at the 2021 New York Festival TV & Film Awards.

The Gold Award in the Human Interest category was VOA Mandarin Service Video Story. From China With Love: The Story of AdoptionAbout a family in Michigan that adopted three children with developmental disabilities from China – two children were born blind.

The film shows how families use music therapy to help their children overcome challenges.

VOA Spanish wins Silver Award in Special Report category for Video Stories Walk Across the Borders (Pasos Sin Fronteras)Recorded the Colombian visit of Venezuelan refugees, where they were warmly welcomed.

The other six VOA stories were finals.

“Congratulations to the winners and finalists on this wonderful recognition,” said Yolanda Lopez, VOA director. “I’m really happy that the New York Festival grand jury voted these two powerful stories in their top category.”

The award was announced at a virtual awards ceremony on Tuesday.

According to its website, the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards recognize content of all lengths and formats in more than 50 countries. Other winners represented included Netflix, BBC and Discovery Channel.
