Seattle Police Department employee issues expedite emergency dispatch plans

Texas News Today

Seattle — The Seattle police station is sending detectives and non-patrol officers to respond to emergency calls due to a shortage of patrol officers who fear a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine will outnumber union leaders. Growth.

Due to shortage of personnel, the department came into the rescue dispatch position on Wednesday.

KOMO reports that the division has lost more than 300 officers in the past year. If the October 18 deadline for coronavirus vaccination is not met, about 300 more people could face retirement.

“We can’t afford to lose it, given how desperate we are to grab people,” said police union president Mike Solan. “If we lose more officers, the public safety situation here will be all the more unacceptable.”

According to data from the Seattle Mayor’s Office, 782 officers have presented evidence of COVID-19 vaccination, 98 officers have requested tax exemptions, and 186 have not submitted documents.

The officials want more people to submit the required documents as the deadline approaches.

Police spokesman Sergeant “For those police officers who have not submitted their vaccination cards at this time, we will consider what the next step is,” Randy Huselik said last week after the deadline.

The Seattle area, like other metropolitan areas in the United States, has experienced an increase in gun violence, resulting in staff shortages. Fatal shootings in the first nine months of 2021 in King County, including Seattle, have already exceeded last year’s total.

As of the end of September, this year’s shooting in King County has killed 73 people and injured 283, according to data from the King County Prosecutor’s Shooting Project.

Since 2020, there have been 69 firearms-related homicides and 268 non-fatal shootings in King County.
