Million Dollar Plan for San Antonio International Airport by 2040

Texas News Today

San Antonio – The City of San Antonio’s Bureau of Civil Aviation seeks to upgrade and expand San Antonio International Airport, with multimillion-dollar planning leaders hoping to complete it by 2040.

The city named the plan the “right airport for you.” According to officials, this increase is specifically designed to meet the projected growth of the city of 4 million people in 20 years.

The plan was suspended in the early days of the pandemic, but is now in full swing.

“That’s one of the beauty of working in the airport industry,” said director of the aviation department, Jesus Sainz. “You’re never done. You’re always working and you’re always planning. We want to have the right airspace for the future. The total number of terminal complexes and gates, and we’re looking at the potential of those spaces.” needs to grow.”

This includes parking and land transport upgrades, as well as upgrades to Terminals A and B.

“We are trying to reach more destinations internationally,” he said. “Look at the services and levels of service offered by Terminal Complex. We’ll improve it all.”

According to city officials, the average annual number of passengers at the airport is around 10 million. He estimates that number will increase to more than 15 million by 2040.

The first phase also includes the addition of Terminal C with parking, land transport and technology upgradation.

The city is spending a total of $800 million to $950 million. It is covered by passenger fares, Federal Aviation Administration funding, airport bonds, and grants.

Some people also came to see the plan in the open house.

“My biggest concern is noise,” said Mark Moore, who lives next to the airport. “I am here for the peace, quiet and tranquility of the neighborhood, but for cooperation with the airport.”

Another resident said he wanted the design to take into account the artistic culture of San Antonio.

“One of San Antonio’s calling cards is its beauty,” says David Mattiella. “I think the art of San Antonio is caring. With the same level of design and imagination, you can surprise and amaze your first impression when you arrive at the airport.”

Plans are underway for 2018 to 2040.

Since then, city officials have coordinated plans as people express their concerns through public meetings.

“Device size,” says Saenz. “How can we make them bigger and get enough gates, and how can we have enough capacity for international and future international traffic and grow in that?”

Another Open House will be held virtually this Thursday.

You can learn how to watch the live stream and submit your concerns on the airport’s website at www.sanantonio.gov/SATfuture.
