Mount Airy, North Carolina Film and television actor Betty Lynn, best known for her role as Barney Fife’s boyfriend Selmaloo, has died on The Andy Griffith Show. She was 95 years old.

Lynn passed away peacefully on Saturday after a brief illness, announced in a statement by the Andy Griffith Museum in Mount Airy, North Carolina.

Lynn appeared on the show from 1961 to 1966 as Selma Lu. She reprized her role in the television film “Return to Maybury”, in which Selma Lou and Bernie married.

Born on August 29, 1926, in Elizabeth Antaresarine, Kansas City, Missouri, Lynn began studying dance and acting from an early age. In 1944 he began playing as part of the USO Camp Show.

Lynn took her talent abroad and played in the USO for military personnel during World War II. According to a statement from the museum, she was “considered the only American woman to travel on dangerous Burmese roads during the war.”


She moved to New York in the late 1940s and began acting in films and later on television. After decades of his career, fans are best known about his role on The Andy Griffith Show.

In his later years, Lin reunited with fellow artists and participated in various Mayberry-themed festivals.

Director and actor Ron Howard, who played Opie, the son of Sheriff Andy Taylor, paid tribute to Lynn. Tweet On Sunday, she said, “I lit up every scene she was in and every shooting day she set.”

Lynn moved from Hollywood to Mount Airy in 2007 after several home invasions. He expressed his love for the city to the Associated Press in 2015.

“I think God blessed me,” Lynn said at the time. “He took me to a lovely town, wonderful people, and just said, ‘Now that’s for you, Betty. “”


The museum said Lynn was working on an autobiography before her death, and now hopes to release it after her death.
