Amazon gives employees more work-from-home access even after the office reopens next year.
In a memo to employees on Monday, Amazon CEO Andy Jesse said it is up to individual team directors to determine how often they will work in the office.
“I expect there will be teams that work mostly remotely, teams that work in combination of remote and office, and even teams that decide to work mostly in the office. The best,” said Jassi. says Mr. “We do not intentionally set the day or the day. It is up to the senior leaders and directors to decide along with the teams. “
Amazon did not say how many employees it employs at the director level.
The move marks a change from Amazon’s previous return-to-work plan, which expected most corporate employees to return to office on January 3, 2022. Amazon sets a baseline of three days a week in the office, and employees have the option to work remotely two days a week.
According to Jassi, Amazon thought it couldn’t define a “universal approach” to act on a company-wide scale. Amazon currently has 1.3 million employees worldwide, with hundreds of thousands in corporate roles.
As part of the policy change, Amazon will give corporate employees the option to work up to four weeks a year, completely away from any location in the country where they are employed.
Amazon gives employees plenty of room to report in the office, but Jassi said most employees “get to the office easily within a day’s notice” to the team. He said he was expected to stay.
Other tech giants are also embracing remote work. Microsoft indefinitely postponed the return to the office in September, but Facebook and Google expect to continue working from home if some of their employees can work remotely. ..
In contrast, Twitter said last year that employees can work from home “forever” if they wish.
