Paris ready-to-wear makes a comeback with Dior, Saint Laurent entertainment

PARIS (AP) – Paris Fashion Week is back after a coronavirus-related hiatus. The world of high fashion went primarily digital for a year over the pandemic, but big hitters like Chanel, Hermes and Louis Vuitton are finally returning to the live runway this season. Necessary stuff? Face mask and health pass, Bien Sur.

Dior made sure Tuesday’s ready-to-wear return — with VIPs like actress Rosamund Pike and tennis ace Roger Federer — got off to a great start to the first full day of its spring-summer 2022 collection. It was the famous house’s first ready-to-wear runway since March 2020 – an emotional comeback for some.

Here are some of the highlights, including Saint Laurent:

Dior revives the “slim look”

Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri dived into the Dior archives to return with a playful collection celebrating color and the graphic form.

Surrounding the venue – in an annex inside Paris’s Tuileries Gardens – were colorful blocks and retro signs that were a clue to the collection’s 1960s aesthetic.

The show was a tribute to former designer Mark Bohn, whose 1961 “Slim Look” collection defined a generation. (Liz Taylor famously ordered 12 gowns from that iconic show in an instant.)

On Tuesday, Chiuri revamped Bohn’s skinny styles with her own contemporary twist. The bold color-blocking — away from the décor — came in a camera-snapping palette of raspberry, red, navy, orange and green.
