For people living in poverty, the bigger problem is that they have real access to all kinds of quickfix dopamine, including junk food and narcotics. Even the poorest of the poor have access to luxuries like video games, TVs and cables. But they don’t have the fresh air, opportunities for exercise, and other kinds of privileges that allow people to stay healthy.
We all seem to be choosing the path with least resistance, and the path with least resistance seems to be the way of life trapped in this cycle of bliss. This can lead to greater satisfaction, as opposed to choosing a more reluctant path. Why does it seem like we’ve all taken the first route? Why does our brain’s wiring go backwards?
Why does Mother Nature do this?

So I like that question. The way I understand it is that for most humans we lived in a world of scarce and danger that is always present. To survive, we had to become eternal seekers. Whatever contributes to our ability to survive, such as food, clothing, shelter, companionship, must be very pleasant to us, and that pleasure quickly disappears and we become more. I was inspired to go in search of lots of food, clothing and shelter, companions. Balancing pleasure and pain is an absolutely genius way to inspire us to do the same. Then we get pleasure, but the pleasure disappears and the pain continues. It prompts us to rediscover it, to feel no pain, and to have more pleasure. right behind us.
