WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Verizon Communications said on Thursday that most US employees must show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 under a presidential order from a federal contractor to President Joe Biden. ..

Federal contractor Verizon said it was discussing vaccination requirements with the union. Verizon said retail store employees and some other employees are required to be vaccinated by February 1.

Verizon said certain “home” Verizon consumer groups are excluded. “At this point, we are in discussions with the union so it does not apply to employees representing the union,” Verizon said.

“We respect that some of our employees have different beliefs and perspectives regarding COVID-19 and vaccines, but we need to comply with government requirements, including federal contractor requirements. There it is.”

More and more federal contractors are complying with the December 8 deadline.

Top US railroad operator union Pacific Corporation said on Wednesday it would need to vaccinate 31,000 US workers.

Last month, US passenger railroad Amtrak said it would require nearly all of its 18,000 employees to be fully vaccinated by November 22.

Another federal contractor, Boeing, said Tuesday it would need to vaccinate 125,000 US workers.

Major US airlines say they will meet deadlines imposed on federal contractors such as American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airlines and Alaska Airlines. The same is true for Spirit Aerosystems, a company that makes aircraft parts.

The White House last month announced a December 8 deadline for federal contractor employees, following a Reuters report. The requirements are expected to cover lakhs of employees.

International Business Machines Corp and Raytheon Technologies Corp have also said all US employees will be required to be vaccinated.
