LONDON (Reuters) – UK’s largest retailer Tesco opened its first check-out-free store in central London on Tuesday, allowing customers to shop and pay without scanning products or interacting with cashiers . I can do it.
Tesco’s move follows similar challenges by rivals such as Amazon, Aldi and Morrison.
High Holborn’s “Get Go” rollout at Tesco Express stores has been underway since 2019 following a successful trial run at the Staff Store at the retail store’s headquarters complex in Welwyn Garden City, North London. said.
The High Holborn store has been cashless since its opening in 2018.
Customers with the Tesco.com app can check in to the store, pick up the groceries they need, and leave immediately without having to go to check-out.
The combination of a camera and a weight sensor verifies what a customer has picked up and charges the product directly from the app when leaving the store.
Customers will receive a receipt over the phone within minutes of leaving the store.
Tesco said it has partnered with Trigo to roll out the technology.
