LONDON (Reuters) – Lloyds Banking Group will close an additional 48 branches in the UK and Wales, a UK lender said on Wednesday.

The shutdown is the latest in a series of such steps by banks announcing the closure of 44 different branches in June.

After suspending restructuring for several periods last year, banks began branch closures to focus on responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sharon Graham, executive secretary of the Unite Labor Union, said:

Lloyds said it meets less frequently with customers using branches and is operating a scheme in which “community bankers” meet with customers in the area.
