Blue Origin CEO Bob Smith sent a company-wide email to Jeff Bezos enterprise employees in response to a toxic and sexist workplace allegation raised in an essay published by a former employee. sent..

The essay, published Thursday, was signed by Alexandra Abrams, the former head of employee communications at Blue Origin. The essay said it was approved by 20 current and former employees who were not identified. There are two examples of sexual harassment by senior leaders of Blue Origin. The company also claimed strict non-disclosure agreements and raised safety concerns and environmental issues in relation to company practices.

Smith’s email, obtained by CNBC, was intended to assure the company that Blue Origin’s spacecraft and rockets were safe and “not tolerant of discrimination or harassment of any kind.”

“If Team Blue members are always concerned about a topic, we welcome them and encourage them to speak directly to me,” Smith said in an email on Thursday.

The space company did not respond to CNBC’s request for comment on Smith’s internal email.

You must have seen some of the claims made against our team today.

Like any criticism, whether personal or professional, and whether the criticism is fair or unfounded, it is by no means easy to listen to. Categorizing what is useful and what is not requires reflection and humility.

It’s especially difficult and painful for me to hear claims that attempt to portray the entire team in a way that doesn’t match the personalities and abilities found every day at Blue Origin.

However, one of our Blue Leadership principles is “Leaders are honestly open-minded and humbly consider their strongest beliefs. Diversity in all forms generates novel ideas in the form of different perspectives. We respect sexuality.” Because of its openness, we tend to trust those around us and gain the trust of others in return.”

We have written and published that theory and other theories. And today, and always, be self-critical and maintain the highest standards.

I want to reassure the team in some way, seeing what they can learn and improve.

First, the New Shepard team went through a systematic and painstaking process to certify vehicles for First Human Flight. Anyone who claims otherwise is not informed and is simply wrong. The team is reasonably proud of the work they do, and we should be.
